How It Works for Players
A player can only claim mileage for away fixtures unless they also act as a volunteer, in which case the volunteer rules apply.
If just a player, the player can claim mileage for all away fixtures they drive to.
Example:
A player drives to 2 away games. The total mileage is 200 miles.
The club reimburses the player for their mileage at 45p per mile. (If the player is carrying a passenger (such as another player), they can claim an extra 5p per mile.)
Assume the player is travelling alone, they are reimbursed £90 for their 200-mile journey.
Once reimbursed, the player can choose to gift this amount back to the club.
The club then claims Gift Aid on the £90 reimbursement, generating an additional £22.50 in funding for the club.
If all players do this, the amount of Gift Aid the club claims would be significant.
NOTE - a parent or carer cannot make a claim if they drive a player.
